Use Cases

Multinational Entertainment Provider

Challenge:
A large, multinational provider of cable television services to several countries in Latin America was looking for a way to generate excitement about its programming. To increase retention and encourage new subscribers, the company had an idea: Stream movie trailers and program clips, as well as programming information directly to mobile phones, providing viewers with a sneak peek at their favorite shows and movies. The company was seeking technology to make this happen.

Solution:
Onstream Media addressed this need by developing a customized solution, leveraging its Digital Media Services Platform (DMSP), a comprehensive transcoding, content management and publishing solution. With DMSP, company staff members simply upload the source video for movie or program clips. Onstream then transcodes the video into different formats and bitrates and delivers a link back to the company for automatic publishing. DMSP both prepares and organizes the files for publishing, based on the company’s programming requirements in any given week. Each clip is automatically published at the right time and day for optimal exposure – directly to a mobile phone app.

Result:
The company was able to publish over 5,000 files each month using the automated DMSP platform. The automated workflow only required a few people to manage, but it yielded significant returns in terms of exposure. Customer feedback on the app was excellent, both in social-media outlets and app-store reviews. Best of all, as the entertainment company continues to grow its mobile marketing strategy, DMSP can scale, thanks to its services-oriented design.

National Press Venue

Challenge:
A professional organization in Washington, D.C., nationally known as a high-profile event venue for media, government, politics and business, was looking for a webcasting platform that could be customized and used by each of its event clients. A key goal was to find a solution that would complement and easily integrate with the venue’s in-house production services and IT environment.

Solution:
Onstream provided the venue with Visual Webcaster, an information-rich, professional webcasting solution that allows users to create dynamic presentations right from an Internet browser. The venue’s clients can now make use of Visual Webcaster’s pre-designed themes and multiple-media capabilities, incorporating streaming video, audio, graphics, HTML and presentation documents. As part of the solution, Onstream also provides its iEncode solution for encoding; Onstream then facilitates online broadcasting – live or on-demand.

Result:
Onstream’s Visual Webcaster platform, encoding technology and Internet broadcasting, works seamlessly with the venue’s own production capabilities to offer highly reliable, professional webcasting services. These advantages have enhanced the venue’s offerings, allowing its clients to extend their reach and the value of their individual events. Additionally, the high-quality services have reinforced the venue’s brand image as one of the country’s top event destinations.

Federal Agency

Challenge:
A federal-government agency was seeking ways to make information easily available to its employees and constituents. The agency had a variety of employee-training and constituent-information programs that it wanted to deliver cost effectively to as many people as possible. A key requirement was to find a webcasting platform that would work seamlessly with the organization’s existing video-conferencing units.

Solution:
For employee training, the agency chose Onstream’s WebInterpoint, a feature-rich, customizable Web-conferencing solution. Webinterpoint provides the agency with an easy-to-configure, low-cost way to deliver internal training sessions to up to 1,000 people. For its constituent-information events and Town Hall meetings, the agency chose Visual Webcaster, Onstream Media’s rich Internet broadcasting platform. Visual Webcaster works seamlessly with the agency’s existing video-conferencing units to deliver high-quality webcasts cost-effectively. The webcasts feature streaming video side by side with presentation materials for highly impactful, virtual events. Onstream provides ongoing production support, “SimuLive” editing, 508 captioning and VCU signal acquisition when needed.

Onstream is also helping the agency with its extensive video archive. The videos are being converted via Onstream’s Digital Media Services Platform (DMSP) – a transcoding, content management and publishing solution. Staff members can simply upload the source video; Onstream then transcodes the video into different formats and bitrates and delivers a link back to the company for automatic publishing.

Result:
Onstream’s technology has had a significant impact on the agency’s ability to deliver communications internally and externally. Online training programs cost only $100 – compared with an estimated $3,000 to conduct a traditional Lunch and Learn. Externally, the agency is now more equipped than ever to keep its constituents up to date with information about current regulations and other vital issues. The DMSP solution is streamlining and organizing all of the agency’s archived videos, ensuring smooth access and delivery.

Publisher

Challenge:
A publishing company specializing in hobby-oriented consumer media was looking for ways to monetize its videos and other content. It needed a solution to organize, manage and deliver its videos and then to conduct payment processing. A crucial goal was providing a positive customer experience by delivering high-quality, glitch-free content delivery and smooth transaction processing – on both computers and mobile devices.

Solution:
To manage the video content, the publisher chose Onstream Media’s Streaming Publisher. Streaming Publisher makes it easy for the company’s staff to post and deliver videos online. First, they upload source video to Streaming Publisher. Then, Streaming Publisher transcodes the video into different formats and adaptive bitrates to ensure smooth delivery to computers and mobile devices. Finally, the system delivers a link for automatic publishing.

For payment processing, the company chose Onstream’s StoreFront, a robust, e-commerce platform. To further enhance the customer experience, Onstream added social media tools, such as reviews, favorites and sharing, as well as design elements, such as bookmarking within videos and close captioning.

Result:
The high-quality video delivery and seamless payment processing allowed the publisher to generate a new revenue stream. The company is now using Onstream technology to replicate its success across all of its media properties. In addition to creating a valuable, additional profit center, the company also strengthened its reputation and brand in the marketplace.

Fortune 500 Company

Challenge:
This global company, which specializes in industry, energy, transportation and healthcare, was interested in creating a secure, virtual-meeting space for an employee training and vendor conference. The company needed a virtual destination for 64 webcasts, consisting of both live and pre-recorded events over the course of a three-day period. The challenge: The space needed to be set up in just one week.

Solution:
Onstream Media provided its industry-leading MarketPlace365, a secure, online gathering space that connects companies with their target audiences. Using the platform’s Auditorium section, Onstream arranged spaces for six conference tracks with specific content, allowing the company to deliver 30 pre-recorded video webcast events and 34 live audio webcast events. Using the Exhibition section, Onstream created 25 virtual booths for the company’s salespeople, where they could post streaming video, as well as information about their products and services.

Result:
Onstream completed the project in just three days. The conference was well received and allowed the company to realize significant cost savings in travel while delivering the event on time. All information was made available on demand, so it was accessible for invitees to review and participate in it, even after the event was over.

Government Agency

Challenge:
Another federal government agency, which is tasked with consumer safety, was heavily reliant on surveillance cameras out in the field. However, the agency did not have the ability to pull all of its surveillance feeds together to easily view them at headquarters in Washington, and its existing vendors did not have the technology to achieve this requirement.

Solution:
Onstream Media solved the problem by taking all of the feeds, re-encoding them and making them available in a consolidated view on the agency’s intranet site. Using a live HTML5 player embedded in the site, the result was a single intranet page with all the feeds available for viewing – labeled and categorized. The live streaming was made possible with Digital Media Services Platform (DMSP), Onstream’s transcoding, content-management and publishing solution.

Result:
Onstream’s solution facilitated capturing, encoding, hosting, cataloging, delivering and reporting – allowing for one simple interface for easy monitoring. By partnering with Onstream Media, the agency was able to achieve greater accountability and significant cost savings. Also, bringing together all the feeds into one intranet page improved monitoring efficiency and saved the agency from having to purchase multiple monitors for each feed.
